Abstract

This paper describes a solid isoparametric element which can incorporate multiple composite layers in the same element and still predict in‐plane and out‐of‐plane coupling. Finite element models using this element have been used with good success to predict the global response of a tire during contact. This element, used in conjunction with any of a number of global‐local methodologies, offers potential for reducing the computational effort required in the analysis of tires.
