Abstract

An integrated design and analysis methodology for a Fiber Reinforced Plastic (FRP) Integral Wheel‐Tire (IWT) was developed for applications in different automotive vehicles. The results are presented specifically for composite epoxy structures reinforced with long glass fibers and having a bonded rubber tread. This methodology includes automated design and analysis procedure and allows for closing the loop in the integration of materials, process, and design phases of a product. The results from this methodology were verified by testing real parts. The effect of a design change was predicted automatically in a short turn‐around time. As an example, a study of footprint sensitivity to design parameters is discussed.
