This paper develops a cost‐effective analytical‐numerical simulation procedure which models the tire wear problem resulting from the spinup process associated with high‐speed aircraft landings. The resulting model can represent the energy transfer at the tire‐runway interface, the rotary momentum absorption process, the steep thermal gradients in the interface region as well as the high wear rates resulting from the combined thermal degradation of the rubber (reversion, melting, ablation) and mechanical machining by runway asperities. This is illustrated in a series of parametric numerical studies defining the parametric effects of a variety of system factors.Abstract
