Abstract

Empirical data published since 1925 suggest a linear relation between tire rolling loss and vehicle fuel consumption. The background of this relation is discussed and then updated to include current passenger cars and trucks. Finally, the relation is transformed into a simple rule that would allow an estimate of the fuel savings achieved by tire rolling loss reductions.
