Abstract

This report summarizes skid resistance information from many sources throughout the United States in an effort to determine whether surfaces with skid numbers below 35 should be used in traction grading. The author recommends that a constant inventory of pavement skid resistance be maintained to determine repair priorities and that a slippery surface (skid number in the range 20–25) be included in a test procedure for tire traction grading.
