Abstract

The effect of brake application time and data filtering frequency on peak braking coefficient measurements are discussed. The study was conducted using the vehicle deceleration method, essentially in accordance with ASTM procedure Testing Tires for Wet Traction in Straight‐Ahead Braking Using Highway Vehicles (F 403‐74). It is shown that within the range covered in this program, the brake application time does not influence peak braking coefficient measurements. The selection of the data filtering frequency is shown to be very critical and dependent on brake application rate.
